The Company

UKWtechnik Jaeger is the straight line follower of activities, that go back to 1968, when UKW-Technik has been working in the field of telecommunications, where it was engaged in development and sale of special radio equipment and systems. Satellite activities began with the reception of the first TIROS experimental spacecraft.

The 1970īs...

During the 70īs Terry Bittan, publisher of a specialized radio communications magazine, started to develop and build equipment for the reception of the early experimental weather satellites, firstly distributed as kits for amateur use. When the very first European Meteosat spacecraft was launched in 1977 this activity was transformed into a professional business, serving both private enthusiasts and commercial users.

The 1980īs...

In 1983 the weather satellite branch was segregated from the publishing company and was continued as an independent business. The company UKW-Technik Electronic GmbH was born. Since that time UKW-Technik  is fully dedicated to systems for reception and exploitation of satellite based weather information.

Already in the late 80īs the former hardware based image storage and processing was gradually moved to PC systems, first under MS-DOSTM, today usually under MS-WINDOWS NTTM.

The 1990īs...

UKW-Technik proudly counts more than 1000 installations worldwide in over 70 countries and in all continents including Antarctica. Applications are mainly national meteorological offices, early warning systems for natural catastrophes, scientific institutes, armies and air forces, airports and international airlines, but also include commercial and demanding private users.

Communication satellite based weather information systems, such as SADIS (via Intelsat) or RETIM (via Eutelsat), which are primarily used for aviation purposes, are also available in addition to the traditional weather satellite services.

The New Millennium...

The first decade of the new Millennium is ruled by an entirely new set of meteorological satellites using a fully digital transmission format. After the failed launch of MTSAT now Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) is the first in the line. Following itīs sincerely delayed but finally successful launch in August 2002 it is meanwhile in fully operational service.

Since beginning of 2003 UKWtechnik Jaeger is continuing the activities of UKW-Technik Electronic GmbH.

Early 2005 the quality and management systems of UKWtechnik Jaeger have been certified to be compliant with ISO 9001:2000.
